Most recent NFT games are all about collecting monsters or cards or something similar. Unlike recent NFT games where players are playing a collection game, Path of Dao is more on a traditional RPG gameplay. Players will focus on building and strengthening their own character through leveling up, looting items, or crafting items. To loot or craft those items, players need to adventure or achieve a high enough level to craft them. Here is where player stats come into play.

What are stats?

In an RPG, stats define how strong a player’s character is. In Path of Dao, there are 11 base stats and numerous additional equipment stats. The 11 base stats is what the player’s character possesses on their own without equipment. The 11 base stats are:

  • Qi — the available energy to do actions in-game and in-battle
  • Lethality — the potential base raw damage that can be done by a character
  • Toughness — the base defense of a character against raw damage
  • Speed — the speed of a character in the world and in-battle
  • Perception — the ability to see through mysteries in the world and critical hit rate chance in-battle
  • Soul — This is the same as lethality but ignores a % of toughness’ defense
  • Water — water element additive effect to lethality’s base raw damage
  • Fire — fire element additive effect to lethality’s base raw damage
  • Earth — earth element additive effect to lethality’s base raw damage
  • Wood — wood element additive effect to lethality’s base raw damage
  • Gold — gold element additive effect to lethality’s base raw damage

The base stats of the player’s character is kept simple to represents Chinese martial arts fantasy and keep gameplay in the world and in-battle not too overwhelming to new players. The complexity will reveal itself when players start to create optimal builds with the additional equipment stats as well as the use of skills in battle.

In addition, there are 5 elements in the game as base stats. This goes hand in hand with Chinese 5 elements theory.

Let’s take fire for example. If a player has fire element stats, he will be strong against gold (metal). Fire is however destroyed by water, and will be at a slight disadvantage against earth players as fire creates earth. Players must be careful with their stats build as adding fire and water in their player stats will create an elemental conflict within their character. This is where Path of Dao encourages players to craft theories around the most optimal build. With this 5 element cycle, the team believes this will nurture healthy competition amongst players.

How are stats gained?

Stats can be gained from leveling up your character, equipping items, or consuming pills that earn you either permanent stats or temporary stat buffs. In the previous article, we talked about how to level up your character through cultivation. At each stage breakthrough or realm breakthrough, characters will earn stat points. These stats can be freely allocated to the 11 base stats. Lastly, the higher the player’s realm the more stats gained at each breakthrough.

We want to keep each article as bite size as possible. The next article will feature Items, Equipment, and Skill Manuals.
